I live in a apt complex. This is my front yard. I can't take it anymore. Grass won't grow here, too many old trees. I tried to square foot garden last spring but again the trees. Any suggestions?? I know move, but i want it to look different when I do. Lol can't be anything permanent of course, temporary, inexpensive, colorful and shade loving.

Any other areas spaces around the complex? Is there a way you could request to have the tree canopy trimmed back a bit?
You could probably grow some greens there, they like it kind of shady.
I've got a great patch of cilantro and red leaf lettuce that almost get no direct sunlight.
I also have a lot of trees around where i live. I put tomatoes/chiles in containers, that way I can customize the exposure to sun/ shade they get by being able to move them around.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've got pots around the back in the sun. I asked to get the trees trimmed last year. Nothing happened. I did plant some caladium bulbs so I will have something in there. It just seemed like such a waste.
