Looks like there was quite the turnout in Winston-Salem for Ms. Angelo on Saturday, from Oprah, President Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama, Cicely Tyson, Robin Roberts, and about two thousand others. According to Eonline, Oprah and pal Gail even got some shopping in last week at Hanes Mall and Thruway.
I watched a good bit of the service. It was lovely. Dr. Angelou would have been pleased, and it's clear that she made a tremendous impact on a lot of people. She will be missed, though her works live on as testament to an era of tremendous change.
I missed the women's French Open final because of it.
The service was nice until the minister started screaming. I will never quite understand that type of delivery. Cicely Tyson was really good.
LOL, he wasn't screaming; he increased his volume in a very exciting tone which is pretty common in most Black churches and many White ones. Those who are accustomed to very reserved worship experiences just aren't used to it.

Very intelligent to make an assumption about someone you have never met. I have seen this type of thing (and been in the same room with it) MANY times. It's screaming to get the point across, but you can obviously call it whatever you like - and so can I - and I think it's ridiculous.
I know from experience you love attempting to correct people on this site. I hope you enjoyed your attempt.

For the last time, it wasn't screaming and there was nothing "ridiculous" about it. If it's not your cup of tea culturally and you don't understand the religious and social context of that sort of delivery, then you don't have to listen to it and using disparaging terms to describe it is pretty asinine on your part. Her pastor did an excellent job in eulogizing her, including the climax and it appears that the majority of the congregation thought so as well. If there's anyone that understood the power of the spoken word, it was Dr. Angelou and the fact that she chose to affiliate with this church and its pastor, who preaches in such an electrifying, attention-grabbing way, says a lot. Kudos, Dr. Churn!
Screaming is screaming in my book...you can characterize it however you want - and so can I. Case closed.
