I read many answers to posts that mention a lot about traffic. Would anyone be able to compare the traffic in the Triad/Triangle area to the traffic in the Metropolitan area of NY? Are we taking stand still bumper to bumper? Heavy congestion? Heavy volume but always flowing? I am relocating to either one of these areas from just outside of NYC and one of the main reasons is for a slower paced lifestyle, which of course would mean NOT sitting in traffic everyday for an extra hour. Thanks so much!
In Winston-Salem, the rush hour is more like rush 20 minutes. Even at those times, traffic moves, just more slowly (unless there is an accident which fortunately is rather infrequent).
In the morning, I drive a few miles on I-40 heading into Winston-Salem about 7:30 am, and I'm often able to set cruise control to 70 for part of the drive. I do it just because I can.
You mention Triangle and Triad in same sentence. Triangle traffic is worse that Triad - they are two distinctly different regions. But as the others have affirmed, neither is remotely close to metro NYC. If you plan to explore both areas of NC, you may want to ask a mod to move your thread to the general NC forum.
