Default What about Jamestown? (NY to NC)

We are a family moving from NY to NC and is interested in Jamestown and Adams Farm. What do you think about the schools, community life, and family entertainment there?

Specifically Southwest (both elementary and Middleschool), and Florence.

Any input would be appreciated.

I live about 35 miles away and don't frequent the area so I don't know a whole lot. I do know that Jamestown has a very good reputation and is really growing. We had friends who lived there years ago and loved it.

I did manage to find this for you if it helps any:

Moderator cut: link removed

Jamestown Schools, Public & Private Schools in Jamestown, North Carolina / NC

Jamestown NC (North Carolina) ZIP codes, schools, jobs, demographics & more

Jamestown City Guide and Yellow Pages at SuperPages.com

Good luck, and hope you like it here in NC.

I would love to buy a home in Adam's Farm, but I can't see spending that kind of money to have my child go to Jamestown Middle School

Does anyone have a child that attends Jamestown Middle? It looks awful on greatschools.com.

Please prove them wrong--Give us some positive stories on Jamestown Middle and Ragsdale High

Default Jamestown

I have lived in Jamestown for the past 12 years and would not live anywhere else in the county. Both of my children attended JMS and Ragsdale and while not perfect, I also would not let my children go to school anywhere else (except maybe the new Northern district - except is way too far out for me). I also lived in Adams Farm when we first moved here. I liked Adams Farm just ok. Great at first - easy for my children to make friends, but high neighborhood turnover, small lots, etc. If I had known about Forestdale East before we bought, thats where I would have gone. The homes are older, don't all look a like, lot sizes much larger and very stable neighborhood. I would alos look at Cedarwood, Jamesford Meadows, and Morris Farms (although these neighborhoods go to the SW schools - also good). With regard to the schools - no school is perfect (I also teach at an alternative HS in Guilford county), but both JMS and Ragsdale have a great deal of parent support and offer 1st class educations. My oldest child is now in law school and my youngest is a sophomore at Elon. Jamestown is very small and enables people to feel a part of the community. It is close to both GSO and High Point for shopping, etc., but feels small and tightknit. We love it here!
