If you truly care about the preservation of our historic downtown, you should join the only organization that promotes, preserves, and protects our historic buildings- Preservation Greensboro Inc. It helped preserve Blandwood Mansion, and more recently aided in the restoration of both the Book Trader building and the historic Cascade Saloon. They also run the Architectural Salvage of GSO. This is all done with a small group of staff and volunteers. Check them out at Blandwood.org
Words are cheap. We must vote with our feet. Our past has no voice without us.
well you better be hot on griffon & Co demolition, because next month the are going to tare down War memorial auditorium.
Not wholly surprising. It was owned by a first-time restaurateur and he opened it across from Crafted, which I know isn't authentic Mexican, but it is very popular and it does scratch that tortilla itch for most customers. Plus that building is slightly cursed when it comes to restaurants, no?
There is going to be a lot of synergy in that part of downtown. Major developments will be clustered together with the performing arts center, lebauer park and the ballpark and bellemeade village/Hyatt Place hotel a few blocks away
Greensboro Distilling Company is well beyond the planning phase and have a location set and even a website and facebook page. They will be located in the former Nassbaum Center along with a the potential expansion of Natty Greene's brewery. You can also check them out at www.greensborodistilling.com
I drove by the Bellemeade Village site yesterday and noticed heavy construction equipment placed on the site. So we may be seeing construction starting soon on 300 upscale apartments along with a Hyatt Place hotel.
Also, the construction of Lebauer Park, Union Square Campus, and Tanger Performing Arts Center is going full steam ahead with heavy grading and demolition occurring at all three sites.
There are going to be a lot of construction cranes in downtown Greensboro over the next few years, the most we've seen in 25 years. Greensboro's skyline is going to be littered with them. There are big, medium sized and small projects all happening at the same time and the center city is going to look quite different in 2017.
The wydnham conference hotel tower lot, has some activity it seems, i want to see the final design of the building. will probably be nearly the same height as centerpointe condo tower.
The Wyndham will actually be about 11-stories. The hotel will have 7 floors and it will sit on top of a 4 story parking deck. Because parking deck floors are taller than building floors, it may actually be a little taller than 11-stories in height. Originally the hotel was suppose to be a 16 to 18 story project, but was scaled back a bit. Nevertheless it will be a welcome addition to Greensboro's skyline and will help fill in that big gap between the Lincoln Financial Building and the Guilford Building. Its pretty cool to see the Wyndham brand in downtown Greensboro. Its like having a Westin or a Hyatt Regency. It will also be the only Wyndham hotel in North Carolina. Hopefully the hotel will help spur development on the Davie Street side. There are just too many parking lots on Davie Street, especially the big parking lot at the corner of Davie and Washington St next to the News & Record building.
