And the thing about these "food cities" lists is that editors skew toward the cities people don't think of first. People KNOW Charleston and N'awlins have second-to-none food cultures. They might not know how good the food is in Winston. And it's not just this site. Southern Living raised eyebrows last year by naming Durham the south's "tastiest town." But they had their reasons (besides just selling magazines, which was surely part of it )

But all that aside, Winston does have a very good food culture, and the spots they mentioned in that post only scratch the surface.
I've heard it quite a bit over the years from various sources. Then again I've heard southerners complain about the food up north.

If you really saw the day-to-day of what goes on in the back you'd probably stay home and get a good meal instead.

Huh? I worked in food service for years. There are some scuzzballs, but you're overblowing it.

OH ... I don't think I am and I'm not talking about the scuzzballs ... just the "normal" folks. Heck I've seen them mixing salad with scabs on their hands. Wait staff buttering your toast after cleaning up the table a minute ago .... you've seen it all.

I guess if any of them could cook a meal as good as I can get at home I might think different. The high end joints are plate decorators and the average is basic stuff of different flavors.

Okay. Well, that's one opinion. A lot of people like restaurants, however, and the point of this particular thread is that Winston has more options than a lot of folks realize.
