I wonder what is going on with the proposed 16 story hotel tower downtown? it was already granted a 1.5 million incentive? They seem to be seriously dragging their feet on that project.
Or the project was scrapped or put on hold, even after all that money was dumped into it, seems like(recent) projects around elm do not take off, where as the other side of downtown near the ball park is thriving with a plethora of new developments being built or soon to break ground.
Including that new (underconstruction) A class office building for charles avery Headquarters on Greene street.
Fisher park at Greenway, which topped out not to long ago.
5 acre Bellemeade village which just finished expanding land for the planned lindsay street closure.
and two more office A class office buildings that are being proposed.
That side of downtown is seriously growing FAST!
seems like the only thing happening on elm that is interesting is the state building mixed use remodel.
I would venture to guess no news is good news with the project going through the planning/zoning/other technical crap stages.
Same goes for the performing arts center; after demolishing the flea bag motel and closing the jazz club behind it nothing physical has happened.
The new park as well, the symbolic "breaking ground" mounds of dirt are still there. No construction yet.
i find it odd how they are deconstructing the building instead of just demolishing it like the other previous buildings on the block, makes me think they will use it as a base. similar to what they are doing with the new hotel tower being built on top of the elmstreetcenter building.

So is Hickory Tavern. The one going into the new Hanestowne Village will be the first in the Triad metro area.
