I'd need to know a general vicinity of where you're going to be working at to recommend anything walk-able, but in general I know that Plant 64 is a brand new renovation if you're into loft/industrial units. I toured one a month or so ago and they were really nice and seemed to have alot of cool amenities. They seem to be the most affordable out of the downtown offerings as well, with one bedrooms starting around $875-ish. Hilltop House is another decent option on Cherry Street, and if your budget is on the upper end, check the Nissen Building.
The new Link Apartments in the West End are brand new and just available across from BB&T Ballpark. There are also individual apartments rented by realtors, and apartments in the West End Village. Hilltop House, and Hilltop House South are new in Brookstown, near Old Salem. Downtown, apartments are in the 18-storey Nissen Building, and new ones are about to be available in the Arts District above the new Mast General Store on Trade Street.
I live in the Nissen Building and it's been great so far! Pretty central to anything downtown and I love my short walks to work. Really great views from the top of the building where there's a pool on top. Ultimately there are plenty of options, you just need to decide what's important for your living purposes (other than walking to work).
