A Hampton Inn & Suites is planned for a vacant parking lot at the corner of Greene and McGee streets in downtown Greensboro, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the project.
The plans add to three other downtown hotel proposals under consideration for the downtown area.
....i'm all for new buildings, But how about some new Office space? Also what broke ground at the corner of green? lots of heavy construction equipment sitting on that lot.

There has to be demand for new office space, and to secure financing it usually has to be a major tenant.
The Hampton Inn & Suites is the fourth hotel proposal to surface for downtown Greensboro. A 12-story luxury Wyndham hotel is being considered above Elm Street Center, an 8-story chain boutique hotel is planned by developer Roy Carroll near NewBridge Bank Park and another has been discussed at the site of the Union Square Campus at the corner of Elm and Lee streets.
Roy Carroll's project is interesting. Early articles stated a chain hotel would be a part of his project and today's article is saying "boutique" hotel. When you think of chain boutique hotels, you think of Hotel Indigo, Aloft, Kimpton ect....it will be interesting to see what brand will be announced for that project.

I'd go with Aloft (although I don't really consider it a boutique hotel). They seem to be making a lot of entrances into downtown areas lately.

I think the Triad is the only major metro in the state without an Aloft hotel. Even Asheville has one. So it wouldn't surprise me if Mr Roy Carroll's hotel is an Aloft. I think that would really help change the image of downtown Greensboro to have an Aloft and a Wyndham. If all these hotel projects or at least three of them start construction within the next six months, It will be an indication that downtown is moving to the next level. Greensboro's downtown will be where Greenville SC's downtown was 10 to 15 years ago. There are a number of parallels between the two cities besides the fact that both were named after General Nathaniel Greene.

I'm not sure that 3 hotels is an indication of "moving to the next level". It will take a lot more than that for Greensboro to get off the level it's on.
