I like all of these! Someone should write Koury (or Kotis?)...

They should go with the original plan and connect the mall with the Sheraton/Koury Convention Center

Belk will close its Four Seasons Town Centre store today at 1800 hours (6 pm) after 40 years in business.

The owners of they mall said they will find a tenant to replace Belk but honestly I can't think of any department store that would move there. Its going to be a challenge to say the least and if the Greensboro ever does land a more upscale department store such as Nordstrom, its going to Friendly Center.

Sad to see this center decline. You would think with the Koury Hotel and Convention Center, and the nearby Greensboro Coliseum, this area would be thriving. It had such great potential, and always attracted crowds during ACC and entertainment events at the coliseum. And to this day I remember childhood trips to the nearby Roy Rogers on High Point Rd. when visiting family in Greensboro. Then after college I moved up to Virginia for 10 years and Roy Rogers restaurants were everywhere. But back to the mall, if Belk leaves a mall in NC, then you know its days may be numbered. Sorry to say.

Belk has two locations at Friendly, one being a recently opened home store; it doesn't sell clothes. High Point Rd was indeed once the crown jewel of Greensboro, but that entire stretch has a bad rap in spite of the fact most of the major crime stories come from downtown. Warranted or not this bad rap has negatively impacted the mall and this is in spite of the major attractions in the immediate area. The city is trying to clean up the image.
I frequent the area and there is not much empty spaces however, it is rather sprawled out.

The problem is the image of High Point Rd particularly between the coliseum and the Koury Convention Center. There is a strip club across the street from a church, run down/vacant buildings and pawn shops. The city will soon start construction on a streetscape project but that alone isn't going to solve the problem. High Point Rd is an embarrassment to Greensboro especially when we are hosting events such as the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Its amazing that hasn't deterred these kind of events from coming to Greensboro. Unfortunately the city cant force unwanted businesses to close shop and move elsewhere and they cant force businesses to upgrade their appearances. Its going to take years before we see the kind of changes we want to see along High Point Rd unless some entity like UNCG plans to buy up all the property along the corridor like UNCG is doing on Lee Street.

Is Four Seasons Town Centre in danger of losing J.C. Penney as an anchor? The chain is in the process of closing stores.

General Growth Properties needs a plan to keep Four Seasons Town Centre viable an as a destination in ten years. Connecting Sheraton and Koury Convention Center should be an item in that plan.
