We are looking to move to North Carolina and we like the Winston-Salem area. My husband currently works for a transformer company in NJ. He knows a lot but unfortunately doesn't have any college behind him. I worry about the big decrease in salary. Within the state can anyone recommend a good company to work for?

What exactly does the husband do? Is he a welder, electrician, assembler, or unskilled laborer? It makes a difference in finding a comparable job. There are hundreds of manufacturing companies in NC, and they require different skills.

Volvo is also considering Greensboro for an auto manufacturing plant. Made in America, but owned by China.

Volvo/Mack corporate HQ is in G'boro, but I hadn't heard about them expanding manufacturing down here. Volvo's main US production used to be based out of Dublin, VA, although when I was in Blacksburg for undergrad there were rumblings of that being scaled down.

I'd look on Indeed and see what comes up between W-S and Greensboro. When I was in mfg engineering, I probably sent resumes to all of them...

Different companies. Volvo Cars was spun off by the main Volvo group (which includes Volvo Trucks/Mack/Renault Trucks, Volvo Financial Services, buses, construction equipment, etc.) and bought (first) by Ford, and is now owned by Geely, a Chinese company.

There is talk of a Volvo cars plant coming to the US, and a few sites in the Carolinas are supposedly high in the running.

Try Caterpillar. They have a plant in Kernersville.
Also RF Micro Devices. Honda Jet is getting ready to expand (again) so they may have some postings.
