I would imagine that the bigger the city the better.
more diversity/culturalism/social acceptance etc.
try Raleigh or Charlotte, those are the largest.

The US is relatively backwards to the developed world, and NC is relatively backwards to the US. That said - Raleigh/Charlotte may be your best bets. Good luck.

Might want to take a look at SW Va.
Hello! I know you said you have your eye set at North Carolina but I would like to mention the fact that I have noticed a large amount of muslims in the Roanoke valley area where I moved to a few months ago. I love it here and people are very accepting to other cultures its kind of like you like your life I live mine kind of thing. My neighbor above me is a muslim and I really wish he was friendlier because I have enjoy learning about other cultures.. Too bad hes not a very friendly or people person. Good luck and email me through here if you have any questions!

I'm not sure where you went in North Carolina, but most of our state is not "backwards". Many of our residents are traditional, conservative types (outside of the larger cities), but that does not equate to intolerance.
I would say around Roanoke like he said, though I'm not sure how many mosques are up there.
Here in my hometown in Greensboro, we have two mosques, and I have a number of Muslim friends (Bosnians, Palestinians mainly). I am personally Jewish and love my Muslim brethren. :-)
Also, Durham and Raleigh are good bets.
Charlotte is just like any other big city, and has a decent Muslim population as well, but I would recommend either Greensboro or the Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill).
I hope this helps. (Inshallah) :-)
Salam/Shalom!
