Hi Folks,

Wondering if anyone can tell me about Wakefield Place subdivision? We passed through yesterday and looked at a very nice house, but the realtor really couldn't tell us anything about the neighborhood. It seemed quiet and well-maintained, but we were only there for about 30 minutes and yesterday's weather wasn't really conducive to people milling about. We are concerned about crime, obviously, but also about what kind of community it is. Do people talk to one another? Are there community events? Are there lots of children or is it an older neighborhood? Blue collar or professional or a mix? Best places to shop/eat nearby. Interesting places or activities nearby. I think this neighborhood will be on the inside of the new beltway. Any idea or guesses as to what that will mean for property values? Anything that would give us a sense of what it would be like to live there. Thanks!

I can't answer specifics about people in the neighborhood. I know where it is. It's a nice section of town.

Country Park is not far away. Friendly Shopping Center is a few miles toward town. There are restaurants all over town. I'm surprised your agent didn't point that out to you. If you need a better one, PM me.

The interesting thing about Greensboro, to me anyway, is that it doesn't take long to get anywhere. I lived in Charleston for 20 years, and DC before that. So you don't have to necessarily be close to things you enjoy.

I live near the intersection of Holden and Bryan Blvd. My neighborhood is older. Neighbors know and enjoy each other. The houses in my neighborhood are smaller than the ones in Wakefield. I grew up close by, so it's comfortable and familiar for me. Living here is far more suburban than NYC. Forget bagels. Learn to love grits.

Thanks for the feedback. Any idea about the beltway and what it means going forward? Do you think it will help/harm/have no effect on property values. Sounds like you're a realtor, you must have some opinion on it. What have you been hearing?

I'm not a realtor I'm a social worker, lol.

I have heard nothing about the road negatively affecting anything. I use the part that's done often when I go to Winston or High Point.

It's traffiicky going up 220 toward Summerfield. They're widening the road and building part of the beltway up there. But that wouldn't affect your day to day if you live in Wakefield.
