Hi,
Looking for a home inspector. Obviously we want someone who is thorough, but also fairly priced. Thanks in advance for your recommendations and referrals.

My realtor set up my home inspection and met the inspector for it. I'll look at my home inspection later and see who did it.

Are you looking for an inspector or an appraiser?

Looking for an inspector and I'd like to keep the realtor separate from all other transactions. In NY, it's racket and they're all in cahoots, so you NEVER take the realtor's suggestions for inspection, attorney, etc.

Thanks for your recommendations. I'll check them out!

It's very different here, at least for me. My realtor was my next door neighbor when we were kids. So I trusted her completely.

If I'm remembering correctly, the inspector came after the contract was signed. The appraiser doesn't do a full inspection, but let's you know how much the house is worth before you commit.

Never a bad idea to look for your own inspector and attorney. I don't have any reason to think that any of the realtors and inspectors collude around here, why risk it? An inspection is no good unless it's independent.

Right. But I think an inspection is required after a contract is ratified. So, OP, you can get one on your own. But you'll have to pay for another one later.
