My husband and I will be moving to Winston-Salem in June. He will be working at Forsythe Medical Center. We are looking for advice regarding:
1. Apartments (looking for 2 bed, 2 bath; pet friendly; want to stay under $1,000/month rent)
2. Daycare Centers or Nanny Services (our baby is due in October)
3. Christian churches in the area

Any advice would be appreciated! We are excited for this move!

You can probably find a small house to rent at or near your budget, and I think you'd be much happier. Search on Craigslist for "Ardmore". Its a nice neighborhood near Forsyth and Baptist with a good stock of rental houses.

There are hundreds of churches in Winston-Salem...you're going to have to narrow that down a good bit before anyone can give you any meaningful advice.

Agreed that a house in Ardmore would probably be a good bet for you. Plenty of families and lots of healthcare workers in the area. There are a few blocks here and there in Ardmore that are less than desirable, but you should be able to find something that works well.

For childcare, I'm not sure what Forsyth has on-site, but I'd be surprised it it wasn't good. I know that Baptist (the other big WS hospital) has on-site childcare that's 5-star rated. Some other ideas include First Baptist downtown and Centenary Methodist (Sunshine) downtown (and not to worry if either of those aren't your denomination of choice. They both take kids from all backgrounds). The going rate for most of the higher-rated centers is 175-190 a week (or so). Here's the NC database for child care centers. If you search Winston-Salem for four and five star rated centers, that should give you a place to start.

And there are, indeed, hundreds of churches to choose from, from "megachurches" to tiny chapels.
