After searching too long for an apartment in my price range, I finally settled on The Retreat, located on Hewitt St. in Greensboro off Wendover Ave. A thorough search turned up no reviews of this complex, even at apartmentratings.com. I've been to the property late at night, and it seems peaceful. The crime stats listed on trulia.com indicate that it is a low-crime area. But I have this nagging feeling that all is not what it seems. The realtor was very nice, but she made a few comments that raised a few red flags in my mind (references to changing the locks if someone breaks into my apt., calling police if I see drug activity). In reality, she was probably just covering every detail in the lease for legal purposes.

The apartment itself is a 2-br, 1 bath, 830 sq. ft. going for $545 a month. Washer/dryer connections are in the apt. So it's a good deal, but it could also be that they're desperate to fill units. (The normal rental on this apt. is $665 a month).

Anyone ever live there or have any more info about it? Here's the link - http://www.theretreatapartment.com/

Thanks!

Thanks!

I was recently look for apartments before I moved to where I am at now and I called to check on The Retreat. The guy at the leasing office seemed hesitate when I asked if it is a quiet place. His actual words were "It is ok". Sounds convincing right? I know the apartments across from it was kind of sketchy. My advice to you, would be to keep on looking.

There are no men working in the office. Are you sure we're talking about the same place? How long ago did you speak with them?

I'll report my experiences on this forum once I'm moved in.

This was around last fall/winter. I was moving in January of this year. If it is the one off Hewitt street then yes. I could be totally wrong. I never got to visit the property because I am familiar with that area and had someone stay at a nearby apartment. I do know there are other "Retreat" locations in the city (not affiliated) so we could be talking about two different locations. I was just giving my insight. I hope I was totally wrong but good luck. I hope it is to your liking. Let me know what happens.
