This is probably the best thing I've ever read about the Greensboro /Winston-Salem debates I see sometimes.
Thanks. Some people are very intent on their city being the largest/best/first city of the Triad, but there are two equally important cities here without a clear favorite. GSO having a few thousand more residents certainly doesn't set it apart enough to be the clear #1.

If Greensboro didn't exist and I was looking to move from High Point under the same circumstances I could see myself living and being happy in Winston.

I don't see how this comment relates to the fact that there is no clear primary city in the Triad...there are two primary cities on very equal footing, somewhat like Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

I flew to Stuttgart, Germany (from ATL) last week and returned yesterday on Delta. Nice to see a subset of the hundreds of passengers thumbing through Sky and reading a little on the area at some point during the 9-hour journey. Returning yesterday, a great number of the passengers were German, and they were doing the same thing.
No matter where I've lived or traveled, it's been obvious that GSO suffers from a lack of exposure, especially when compared to other cities its size (population). This was a good move. Now, if the city's marketing engine could begin airing television spots like the ones I ALWAYS see for Chattanooga, Asheville, Nashville... they might be on to something.
I do think it would be more beneficial for exposure and recognition if the airport were named Greensboro/Winston-Salem International Airport. Even cities that are part of a larger region have their airports named after the largest or two largest cities in the region (Raleigh-Durham Int'l, Norfolk Int'l, Greenville-Spartanburg Int'l, etc.).
Agreed. Go more than one state away in any direction possible, and tell someone you're spending the weekend in the Piedmont Triad. Unless you are talking to a C-D type, the side-eye is guaranteed.
