It's amusing how the article is actually about the Triad, while Greensboro gets the headline. I guess that's due to the airport being known as GSO since this is an airline magazine...and a difficult to view one at that.

I must admit that Greensboro seems to be the focus in advertising the Triad. There is an illustration in the article that says Piedmont Triad yet it only shows Greensboro skyscrapers in the background with the airport in the foreground.

I wouldn't say that Greensboro "is the focus of advertising the Triad" at all...but it is with these kinds of articles. If this article is only about Greensboro then that's fine, but they shouldn't title it "Greensboro" and then proceed to talk about things in the other cities like they don't exist. If it includes the entire Triad then include it!

This is lazy journalism.

That's how I often feel when the Charlotte Observer and other publications run an article and have "the Carolinas" in the title but then proceed to only talk about North Carolina.

Nice...and great to see the exposure. I always read the "feature city" article when I'm on Delta.

Regarding the whole Greensboro/Triad thing, it seems for the sake of article titles, Delta focuses on the city in which they land (and/or the city related to the airport's three-letter designation), and of course they are going to talk about the surrounding area. Even if PTI is not in the city limits (don't remember how all that played out), it is surrounded by Greensboro, Greensboro is on the Delta route maps in Sky, Greensboro is on the Departure boards in other cities. Flying out of Miami recently, their departure boards read Greensboro-High Point.

I was born, raised, and educated in Greensboro though I've lived other places as an adult. Love the Triad, and it will always be home. Honestly though, most people outside of those who enjoy sites like CD, have NO IDEA what the Triad is or means. It does not have "Twin Cities" or "Research Triangle" recognition.

I think there was some sort of agreement made with the Triad cities that no city would annex the airport. But yes I've noticed that Greensboro has annexed around it.

Whatever the reason, it's lazy and inaccurate. US Air did it right a couple of years ago with a 98-page spread about Winston-Salem without a mention of anything in GSO or HP. That's about 5 times the info concerning the arts, culture, history, the economy, and the sciences. It seems like with just a little research Delta could have done something similar, or at least titled the article correctly.

US Airways - October 2012

Didn't US Airways, at some point, have major employment in Winston? Makes sense to me.

Yep. Winston-Salem used to be home to Piedmont Airlines, which US Airways absorbed in 1989. US Airways continues to operate its customer service center and some other operations out of Winston.
