The schools in Sherwood Forest (which is probably a larger area than just the Sherwood Forest neighborhood it self...I'm really talking about the Sherwood Forest Elementary and Jefferson Elementary attendance zones) are much stronger, although it it is more suburban than you are hoping for. Although if you get close to Robinhood Road you could walk to the grocery store, etc.:

Yes, if you do decide on Sherwood Forest, the area closer to Robinhood is your best bet. That area isn't exactly a pedestrian paradise, but there are sidewalks or at least nice wide streets with plenty of room to walk and some destinations (grocery stores, local pizza place, hardware store, shops, restaurants) if you're so inclined.

Oddly, while Ardmore is much more pedestrian friendly in layout, much of the neighborhood is actually fairly removed from many destinations. So even with sidewalks and a more urban layout, the practical walkability isn't what it could be.

West End is really the most walkable area, but it's just so pricey.

Sorry, that was in your original post and I asked without rechecking.

No worries! Thanks for all of the info! So it does sound like given our price range and what we want we should target those 2 neighborhoods. We will just have to see what is available when we get there. The are a few houses that we really like in the Sherwood area but I bet they will be gone sooner than later. Brunson Elem and The Downtown School seem like good options. We can always go the Catholic school route for middle if Wiley does not seem like it will be a good fit.

Moving back to Winston was not in the plans but I think it will be a really good fit for our family!

We have that blue house you posted saved to our favorites There are a few others in that area as well!

If you live on the North Central side of Ardmore, it is within walking distance of several grocery stores (Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc.) as well as Stratford Village and Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

The South Central end is walking distance to Forsyth Tech Community College, but that's probably not an important destination in this case.
