What do you think of Greensboro, NC?
I don't think there's anywhere in the world where people are 100% hateful but Greensboro is the closest I've ever seen! I'm from Florida and I have lived in various places like Texas, and even Mexico and Spain. In Spain, there is no concept of customer service, but that is a cultural difference, not people being hateful. In Mexico there's no customer service either but people are much friendlier... you go to the markets and everyone is like, "buenos días!" and wants to talk to you. People are so real and down to earth there. In Spain they're polite in kinda a reserved way. In Texas? Everyone acts like they're glad to see you, and they want you to have a good day. Floridians are very open, liberal and will strike up a conversation with anyone and people are friendlier. But Greensboring-ians are SNOBS! Not all but 99 %.

Ok, in Greensboro/High Point, people are unbelievably snobby. You go into a store and they treat you like it's the highest priviledge for you to be allowed in a store. Or if you go in and have jeans on, they treat you like **** because they don't think you're gonna buy anything.

And drivers! When you are on Wendover, and put your signal on to change lanes, people blow past you and give you the finger. In Texas the only time people do that is if you cut in front of them with no notice (which is dangerous).

We've lived here for over 10 years, and I would like to move except that a. I'm in grad school and b. My mom and cat are here.
Update: The mountains are very beautiful, but Greensboro is gross and over industrialized. Other than a park or two there are no Green spaces, unlike its name implies. Why do they even call it that?
Update 2: @ Ross James: You're not missing anything. Greensboro is over-rated. Charlotte doesn't seem so bad in comparison, but everyone hates on Charlotte... go figure!

Greensboro was named after General Nathanael Greene. Pretty sad a grad student couldn't find that answer. I have observed those who share your observation are really reflecting on themselves. Your comment about jeans is a load of crap because jeans are the norm, nearly everyone wears them. This is an area where the avg salary is around 40k not 400k; you talk as if everyone here dresses formally.
The only issues I encounter are from old timers who have inferiority complexes and are passive aggressive about it.

People have bad experiences everywhere. My wife and I had a bad experience in Miami - some of the rudest customer no service we have ever experienced. Very shady. Do I think all of Miami is like this? Probably not, but first impressions are usually the most important.

I haven't found Greensboro to be anymore racist or rude than any other place I have ever been. Provided, I haven't done a lot of traveling, but I have traveled. I've found places like Baltimore to be far worse. Of course, I'm a white male, so what do I know, right?

I have to call BS on the comment about being looked down upon if you wear shorts or jeans to the Friendly Shopping Center. That's just completely untrue. Unless you're wearing shorts so short that when you sneeze, the secret is out, but other than that, it's just a bunch of horse bleep.

The people in Greensboro/Winston-Salem ARE rude. When you're driving, they look down at you funny from trucks, and from cars they stare with nasty faces, when I went to the Friendly Center at sweetfrog, people were 100% hateful, giving weird stares to me, and I took my niece ( the whole time she complained of the stares too. She's 10 and VERY beautiful, not weird at all; mixed skin changing color eyes.) to Chuck e Cheese's, it was ghetto and ratchet, like 11 generations there, EVERY ride was taken, and one woman was in lingerie. I took her to Old Navy too for some clothes and people stared her down, one mexican man with his 1 year old I think was staring at her the entire time we were checking out. I had to raise my ****ing middle finger to him, I'm sick of it. Never going there again

Appears that he or she not only bumped a two year old thread to make that post, but also REGISTERED to the site to make that post as that was their one and only post so far.

What you all are describing doesn't sound like racism. It sounds like you might have just come across a few snobby ppl...there is enough racism in the world it's no reason to reach for some where there is none.
