Greensboro could use drones for emergency incidents (High Point: 2015, crime)

A drone technology firm is looking to break into the Triad, with a proposal toinstall a $5.7 million unmanned aircraft system that arrives at emergency incidents before police do.

"Olaeriswill present a plan to the Greensboro City Council on Tuesday for the installation o f the AEVA aircraft system, which launches automatically once a 911 call is received. The unit arrives at the destination in 90 seconds or less and begins transmitting live video from above to police dispatch centers so officers "can actually see what’s happening at the scene."
If the city moves forward, Greensboro would be one of the first cities in the United States and the first in North Carolina to use such technology for this purpose. The system may be manufactured in High Point while Olaeris would establish a regional support office in Greensboro that would support a six-state Mid-Atlantic region.

Im iffy on this mainly because of the cost for something that hasnt even been used including the company videos to even show this system will work or the drones can even do what the company claims.
How will the city budget $1,200,000 a year for these 12 drones.
Shouldn't this be a county decision vs city.

Another skepticism I have the company only is showing animations, and not real videos. of it working.
Not a concern, but has me curious the spokesman claims it will be controlled by remotely piloted aircraft, which is different from a remote pilot and unmanned aerial vehicle. ?

Part of me hopes this will help reduce crime in the Four Seasons area but with way our revolving door judicial system is, highly doubt we will see much rewards except fire department on deciding how many trucks or man power is needed. I hope the camera will have heat seeking with ability to see life and hot spots inside buildings.

It's a risk because of cost and the fact that it's a pilot program. City council seems skeptical because of costs as well. It would be cool if it were feasible. This would work well in a spread out city such as Los Angeles where there have been complaints about emergency response times.

Im not going to divulge in Los Angeles since it not by no means like Greensboro....

If its Pilot program, why not show the actual drone fly above the facility and images of it can produce vs using animation . They been seeking Greensboro since 2012 so definitely had time to develop one drone knowing at some point this state would passs a law. I looked up the 911 system for Greensboro which is called GM-911 and it does cover areas like Julian, MCleansville etc... and is budgeted by the city so that concern is answered.
