After the National Folk Festival wraps up its tour in Greensboro for this year, 2016 and 2017, the city will continue the tradition of hosting its own annually folk festival like all the other cities that have hosted the National Folk Festival. It will be a statewide event called "the North Carolina Folk Festival. The National Folk Festival begins next Friday on September 11th through Sunday September 13th. When the National Folk Festival comes to Greensboro in 2017, a number of downtown projects will be complete like the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, LeBauer City Park, Bellemeade Village and the first phase of Union Square.

I attended the Folk Festival this evening and downtown was packed with festival goers and that's on top of the normal downtown Friday night crowd. There was great music, food, beer and wine and I look forward to attending the next two days. People from all over the country are attending. I saw license plates from Montana and Colorado. Great for downtown and its great the city will continue the event as the North Carolina Folk Festival after the National leaves Greensboro after 2017.

Looks like the folk festival was a huge success. One person described the event as making Greensboro feel like a different city.

My wife and I were there a short time Friday and a few hours on Sunday. You really needed a couple of the three days to catch all the events. We focused on the unique performances such as the Cherokee dance, Chinese rod puppets, and Argentine tango. We enjoyed ourselves.
The layout was a bit deceiving as far as trying to visually gauge the turnout, but it provided room to move about freely. The performances we attended had good attendance.
