It is definitely different from NoVa, a little slower, not as congested and not as many things to do. But there are still some things to do, plenty of parks, it's very family friendly and cheaper. I think you will like it.

Did you seek out Winston or were you transferred?

I'm considering starting a job search, but it is overwhelming to think about it.
The more I read about it, the better it sounds. I was transferred and will most likely move by the end of September. Job searching is always a chore, but being familiar with the area has to be a plus. What line of work are you in?

Compared to NoVa, even the worst commute here would be a breeze for you.

In Lewisville and Clemmons alone, there are dozens of neighborhoods with lots of young families and great amenities like pools, tennis courts, etc. Many of these are tucked away such that you would never notice them just driving by, so that's why it's important to have a good realtor to help you out. Of course, there are many great options in Winston-Salem too, but the point is that you don't have to limit yourself--the commute is not a major consideration.
I definitely plan on getting a realtor. I have some time to check out the area before I move at the end of September.

I am a writer/editor, worked in newspapers for years, now work for Montgomery County Schools. I do some pr and marketing work. I figure I will look at the hospitals, Wake and possibly others, such as VF in Greensboro. I still have some friends in the area (though most of them are in the dying industry of print and publishing), so not sure how much help they would be.
