Question Looking to relocate - need help!

My husband and I are looking to relocate to the Greensboro area this coming summer. I work for United Healthcare and am hoping for a transfer - the addresses for them come up in Walnut Cove and Stoneville. That means nothing to me, but I hope someone might know where that is! We are looking to live on the outskirts of the actual city or in the suburbs and I am hoping that I can get some advice on where a 30-something couple with 2 small kids should look for housing. If I get the transfer I would want to be within a half hour drive, but to start with, I won't be picky! I would love it if I could get some names of areas to look in. We live in MN right now and are looking for a change of scenery. Somewhere a little warmer and slower paced. Friendly, and laid back. Is this what Greensboro is??? We are very hard-working friendly people and family is our number 1!! We are ideally looking for a neighborhood that is a true community. If anyone has any advice for us, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks so much!

Walnut Cove is NW of Greensboro in Forsyth County, North of Winston Salem.
Stoneville is North of Greensboro in Rockingham County. If that helps.

There are plenty of areas to look in- it will depend on how close you want to be to a major city and what schools you want. United Healthcare has an office in Greensboro so it will also depend on where they put you for work. If you are looking near Greensboro, you can try Oak Ridge, Summerfield, Pleasant Garden, Reidsville, Gibsonville, Whitsett, Colfax, Kernersville... the list just gets larger and larger.

Let me know if I can help.

Thank you so much for your relpy! That is very helpful! My next question would then be....what areas do we want to stay away from? If I see a listing for....(where).... I should just run! Thanks again!

All that is going to depend on what you are looking for and what you want to avoid. Are you avoiding higher taxes? People? Older homes? Highway noise? Traffic? Airport Noise contour for the new Fed Ex hub? Or all of the above?

Do you want older or newer? Do you need to be close to anything specific? Do you want a neighborhood with sidewalks close to locally owned businesses or would you rather have a newer neighborhood outside of town? There's a lot of variables here.

What you want in a home and how far you want to be from work will dictate where you should look. You should check the report cards on the lower schools for your kids as well.

Let me know if I can help.

Default Thanks again!

I guess we are looking to avoid high crime areas. What I want it an area that is "close to everything" but not congested, has communities that are very family driven and will be a good, safe place to raise the kids. I guess I don't really care about taxes and stuff like that....they are what they are I suppose. Just a good place for the kids that is convenient to things that we would need. (stores, food, parks) Does that make sense? Any names of suburbs or areas to look and to NOT look would be much appreciated. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
