Hi all - DH has probable job transfer to Greensboro....after some research on here, I seem to be drawn to the Clemmons/Lewisville/Kernersville/Advance areas....According to google it is about 45 mins away from Greensboro. Does that seem realistic? Not sure what shift he is getting, so does time of the day matter so much when travelling? He will be working on Pleasant Ridge Rd, Greensboro - if that helps in determining travel times...
If it really is 45 mins away-which he really doesn't want to do - but may consider... are there any other specific towns you would suggest that are closer to Greensboro? Parts of W-S?

Kernersville would probably be only about 20 minutes. Clemmons/Lewisville/Advance would be more like 45. Time of day would definitely make a difference...outside of the traditional AM/PM rush times will lessen traffic considerably. There are many nice areas on west and northwest parts of Greensboro you should look at...Oak Ridge, Summerfield, Guilford College, Colfax.

Another vote for living CLOSE to work (as in walkable or at most a 10 minute drive).
Next up is to live EAST of the job location to avoid sun in the eyes twice a day.

Ok - so what towns are surrounding the Greensboro area that you would suggest? I was drawn to the above areas because I heard the schools (High School) in particular was excellent...

I do that drive and don't recommend it. The best parts of Winston, school-wise, are generally on the West/Northwest sides of town, farther from Greensboro. If you have no reason to live in Winston, live in Greensboro. And I say that as someone who loves Winston.

Northwest Guilford High and Northern Guilford High are probably the best-respected conventional (non-magnet, non-charter) high schools in the immediate Greensboro area. Grimsley also has some great programs, if you're looking to live closer-in. Some of the Early Colleges (Early College at Guilford, for example) have excellent reputations as well, though there is an application/lottery process. Weaver Academy is also a very good arts-based high school if you're looking for that sort of thing.

I assume that he's working on Plesant Ridge between 68 and Market St. (421).

Areas of Oakridge aren't too bad....68 is horrible, and there's some serious construction coming.

The Cardinal Area of Greensboro (between Flemming and Old Oakridge road) would be close.(and NW High school).
