We are new to the area and are looking for a church. Here is what we are looking for: church that has small groups so that we can get involved, one that is multi-generational but also has a vibrant young adult community (we are early 30s married couple), one that is at least somewhat traditional (though we've become more flexible on this, but do appreciate a more traditional service). The most important thing is community-- which is why we are interested in small groups or some other way to get involved and meet people our own age. We also tend to be more conservative. Generally we have attended Baptist, Presbyterian, or non-denom but open to recommendations. We live in WS.

Not sure about Winston Salem. However, Westover Church in Greensboro sounds like it has a lot of what you're wanting.

You might want to check out First Baptist in downtown W-S. This church is somewhat traditional, however, it's not especially conservative. Their pastor is a woman.

Calvary Baptist in W-S is conservative. My sister-in-law and her family are members and love it.

These two churches offer a contrast and should give you distinctly different choices. They are both large, though Calvary is huge. Both would offer a great opportunity to meet other couples in your age group.

Another good choice might be First Presbyterian Church on Cherry Street in downtown Winston-Salem. It is a large church with people of many different ages. It is evangelical and, I would say, moderately conservative, with women in some of the major leadership positions. It recently broke away from the much more liberal Presbyterian Church USA and has entered a new denomination called ECO.

One more thought would be Redeemer Presbyterian, which is smaller than First Presbyterian, as well as more conservative. It has a warm, intimate feel, and it may be easier to get to know people at Redeemer than at one of the larger downtown churches.
