While I'm all for development and improvement, gimmicky restaurants and promises that take years (and years) to fulfill don't do it for me.

Recently went to the RED Cinemas for the first time. Very unimpressed--theater was musty/dank and still had ancient acoustical boards on the walls, flat screens over the urinals were dusty and had dried pee on them, and red paint was coated on everything in an effort to make it look upscale.
You should have seen it before. The Carousel a.k.a. Red Cinema has a long standing cult following from the former Janus Theater formerly located not too far up Battleground. As it stands Red is still a work in progress. The main areas have been remodeled and the theaters are next.

It appears as though the residential portion of Kotis project won't begin until the railroad company gives up its right of way which it eventually plans to do for the greenway. City council also approved a change in the zoning ordinance to allow this type of development. Marty Kotis had planned a similar type development near Battleground Ave but because it wasn't on a thoroughfare, the ordinance wouldn't have allowed it.

I was under the impression that the railroad was clear now that Chandler Concrete had moved out of their facility off Westover. Regardless, I think he'll wait for the greenway to be finished before he starts on the residential portion of the project.

I don't think the RR is clear as they have been replacing rotted ties along that stretch. Yep, repairing unused track. The same activity has been going on behind Weaver Academy which, is supposed to be part of the Greenway as well.

We can't really deny a project like this, at the end of the day it's up to the developers and at the end of the day people said the same thing about bellemeade village, " it's a pie in the sky idea" "it will never get off the ground" and now it's above ground. I for one am very excited about Greensboro growing at this consistent pace, I've been waiting for it to grow like this and I hope it continues.

Yeah. While I don't think Greensboro would be able to support a ton of projects of this size and scope like you see in Charlotte, I think there's probably market for one of them every year or two based on the fairly decent growth rate the city has seen for the last few decades.

Marty Kotis continues to purchase property in "midtown". He just purchased property that has an office building south of his planned cinema /residential /hotel development. He is creeping closer and closer to the edge of downtown Greensboro

It looks like the first phase of this project may include an Aloft hotel.

Cool. Its about time. They must be in some kind of discussion with Aloft otherwise they wouldn't be putting Alofts logo on the rendering.

The renderings look like some repackaged project from Phoenix, AZ, (ala the La Fitness) or any other metro with urban sprawl. I wonder if this is too big for Gboro.
