Look like Marty Kotis moved the hotel on the opposite side of the complex. He had mentioned it could be Aloft or AC Hotel. We know it won't be Aloft since that's a Roy Carroll project downtown. It may not end up being AC if Carroll beats him to it because in addition to Hyatt Place and Aloft, Carroll said he had other potential hotels planned for downtown. So the flag of the midtown hotel is unknown depending on what Carroll does. I can see Carroll doing an AC Hotel, Hotel Indigo and Element hotel. Maybe midtown can be an Ace Hotel. It looks like its going to be a 10-story hotel tower with part of the parking deck beneath it. Hopefully we will see more projects like this so that midtown can look less like a commercial strip and more like an urban district sort of like a mini downtown. Ultimately id like to see midtown blend in with downtown.
That said, does anyone know if we'll get an upscale comedy club anytime soon? This would be a good place for it.
I lived in the Seattle area for 5 years, and really miss Parlor ( http://www.parlorlive.com/ ). This area is sorely lacking in good comedy clubs that bring in higher profile acts.
Towards the end, Marty Kotis says they're currently working with a "large upscale grocer" for the area.
Maybe it will be the Triad's first Wegmans. It would be cool to have a store like that in midtown and close to downtown.
In fact sources say Wegmans is indeed looking at a site in Greensboro for the Triad's first Wegmans so Kotis may very well be in talks with the chain for a midtown location. Wegmans fits the "large upscale grocer" description. Just looking at photos of the store inside and out, it would be the most upscale grocery store in the region.

Sorry. This should work. A midtown spot is a high probability. Its an up and coming area and its close to Friendly Center where there are a number of upscale retail establishments/restaurants and its close to high income neighborhoods. A Wegmans in midtown is as close as you can get to having a major grocery chain near downtown.
Wegmans is an unbelievably great store, and that would be huge for G'boro, but I doubt the demographics are a fit.
Smaller, dying rust belt cities like Scranton, PA and Binghamton, NY have a Wegmans and Greensboro's demographics are significantly better. I can see a Wegmans doing well here especially if Trader Joe's continues to be a no-show.
