Thinking of relocating to North Carolina. I thought the Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem area looked nice.

Raleigh - too much like California anymore, crowded, liberal, expensive
Charlotte - too much like Atlanta - hot, crowded, getting expensive, traffic
Wilmington - too small

What do you think?

Looking for-

Decent job market
Reasonable real estate prices (I'm coming from Ohio mind you)
Nice change of seasons but not too much winter cold
Good family location

Thought Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem fit the bill well. How are the cities themselves, vs. the suburbs? Main concern is quality of public schools.

For what it's worth, I'm not "from around here", and I agree with your opinions on Raleigh and Charlotte (never been to Wilmington). Keeping that in perspective, I'd say that you're on point with Greensboro.

The schools here are experiencing growing pains, I think, but it seems like a very family-oriented place. I'm just out of college, but I could see myself raising a family in G'boro (unlike other places I've lived). Try staying north/northwest/west of downtown, and I think you'll find something that you'll like.

Greensboro is good, try to stay toward the north end and keep away from the south end.

High Point is really kinda dumpy in most places. Think "El Monte" if you're familiar with California.

Default Moving

I have been living in Greensboro for about a year, I moved from Orlando. This is a change I will never regret, everything is so different in a positive way. The are is beautifule, the lifestyle is very layback, cost of living is lover that Orlando, salaries are better. You only have to be careful where you are planning to get a property. Selecting the right place could be a difference later if you want to move to a quick sale or stuck with it. The areas around the PTI airport are exploding with grow because of the new hub Fedex is planning to construct.

Simply, I love it and my wife too....she's a city girl and I was thinking it would be hard for her to adapt...but i got a big surprise..

Very affordable housing, surprisingly heavily trafficked for a town it's size. The rapid growth wasn't well planned. I know people who live there and love it but since you said in another post that you don't like traffic, I thought I'd mention that. Lotsa chain retail stores for shopping.

Regards,

Cassie
