Although this is 10 years old and there would be more things to add to the list, this should be a good place to start:

We're spending a couple of nights again at the Cardinal, next weekend. We had a great time last year so we wanted to visit again. Though the room rate is quite a bit higher - if this trend continues, we probably won't be back for a third stay anytime soon. We might check out the Indigo once that opens up. But the fact that their room rates seem to be trending higher says business must be good, so that's a good thing.

This time we're doing a ghost tour (wife and daughter enjoys them). The rest of the weekend is pretty open. But now we have a good feel for our options.

Make sure you check with the Cardinal to see if the NC resident rate is available. We saved something like 15 or 20% with that rate.

Yeah, I'm in their loyalty program...the local rate is $20 off/night from their lowest rate. Still quite a bit more than last stay. Last time, I checked rates as our arrival date approached and saved about $25/night. This time, rates have actually gone up. Oh well...we'll have fun.
