I thought we did get a little snow once this year. You could still see the grass though.

At the airport NWS station:

January 18th - 0.7"

And school was cancelled and or a half day in Winston for those two snow days!

Snowless winters are very rare but possible. Even a snowless winter will have flurries or a trace of snow. According to forecasters, this winter will be anything but snowless.

I'd say snowless winters will be about 1/4 the time. Defining snowless= no measurable snow.

Some of those snowless winters will have ice storms though.

Any ice/snow is rare enough that if it's measurable, it will close many things down.

MN born and raised living here in the Triad. Trust me - the winters here even with snow or ice are nothing compared to what you're used to in the great white north! Anything we do get is gone within days, and most times by the following day. While various salt applications are used, it's nothing that will coat your car or ruin a great pair of shoes, and definitely not used as often as it is up north.
