Please can someone help me and my family on where to move to, my choices are Kernersville,Thomasville , Greensboro? Which one is the better one off the three? By Feb 2009 I hope to relocate from NJ to one of those cities, but is is a very hard choice to make because I don't know where to(Kernersville,Thomasville , Greensboro)
Easter week I will drive for 4 days to this area to check it out, so can someone recommend a nice hotel what would be close to all 3 cities.
I am looking to buy 3 to 5 acres land , please help.
Kernersville and northwest Greensboro are good. Thomasville, not so much. The schools there aren't that great.

I would agree with kernersville and north west greensboro. kernersville may be a better choice if you are going for a land grab. if you want to buy some land and sit on it until a developer wants it, you might be able to strike a deal around north/northwest greensboro in the summerfield or oakridge areas but its gonna cost ya!

good morning, honstly I never thought about it, how costly is it to live there? How hard will it be to find land to build a house? I guess I will check out Winstom Salem in 3 weeks also, how far is Kernersville, Greensboro and Winstom Salem apart?

Winston-Salem doesn't cost anymore than Greensboro that I can tell. Northwest Guilford County (esp. Oak Ridge) probably has the most expensive housing between it, Kernersville and Winston-Salem.
We're also in the process of house-hunting and looked at several houses in Kernersville. There is some land to be bought. Now though I'm leaning away from Kernersville just because it's right between Winston-Salem and Greensboro. (I expect GSO & Winston to just keep growing and expanding until all their development butts up to Kernersville's city limits. But that could just be my craziness. lol)
If you go more west of Winston-Salem (Clemmons, Lewisville) or south of Winston-Salem (southern Forsyth/north Davidson County), you get into more rural areas (though, as I said, Kernersville, as well as northwest Guilford County, still has some country left) and then there are no big cities beyond those areas for quite awhile. Which appeals to me very much.
Once you get out of Winston-Salem, the next "big" town west of that is Boone in the mountains (Yadkinville and the Wilkesboros are pretty small) and Boone is pretty much a small mountain town. You'd have to go south from there to Asheville or further west into Tennessee before you found another town as big as Winston-Salem.
South of Winston, the next "big" town is Lexington and then, I think, Salisbury. Neither of which are as big as Winston-Salem.
Living west or south of Winston-Salem has become more and more attractive to me.
You could also go into Stokes (north of Winston) or Rockingham Counties (north of Greensboro), but there are fewer good schools to choose from once you get into those counties.
Oh, your last question. Kernersville is about 10 minutes from Greensboro's western edge and is probably less than that from Winston-Salem's eastern edge. You can get to Winston-Salem from Greensboro (and vice versa) in about 30 minutes (give or take) depending on where exactly you're driving from and where exactly you're driving to. I live in southern Greensboro and can be at the Benton Convention Center (about the only place in Winston that I ever go to) in downtown Winston-Salem in about 30-40 minutes. That includes traffic and lights.
And I agree with Capstone about Meadowlark Elementary and Middle, and Reagan High. Great schools.

thanks for all your informations, I guess when Iam driving down in 3 weeks to explore the area I will know a little bit more about it,I will take to a realtor, find out about schools, malls, doctors, vets for my dogs, churches and everything else . I am from germany are there any Germans in this area? I am also a huge sports fan Charlotte is not to far and I could see an NFL game/NBA.
