Speaking after his team’s 62-57 second-round loss to Miami on Wednesday, Boeheim said “there’s no value” in holding the tournament in Greensboro — which has hosted the tournament 26 times — as opposed to major cities like New York, Washington and Atlanta.

“I’m not going to be around much longer to care about it, but I think that’s where the value is,” the 72-year-old Boeheim said. “I think there’s a huge value in playing the tournament in those places. There’s no value in playing Greensboro, none. It’s there because the league’s been there and the office is there, and they have 150 people that the ACC needs. That’s why it’s there. It should not be held there."

“We kindly disagree. But I guess you can lose in the 1st round anywhere. At least it’s a quick ride home,” the City of Greensboro’s official Twitter account fired back.

And Greensboro is twice the size of the city where he coaches. The dude is nuts.

When it comes to the world stage he is probably right however, just because the conference was born in a small city doesn't mean it should automatically moved to a bigger market.
Greensboro doesn't have recognition of larger cities he mentions which, means Greensboro needs a boost every chance they can get one. The ACC provides such a boost and I think the Triad does a great job hosting the event when it comes to town.

The value of having North Carolina host the tournament was always proximity. ACC was solely located in the SouthEast until relatively recently.
Now that ACC has expanded into the North & Midwest (w/Notre Dame), concentrated proximity isn't as relevant. But it's still relevant.. Greensboro is still close for all the Carolina league members, Virginia Tech, etc, etc.
Greensboro's value now would be both tradition, and proximity for many league members.

An ACC tournament in New York,.. c'mon. These contemporary mega-conferences are lame, and are diluting regional rivalries & traditions that made college sports fun.

The experience in Greensboro is unique like no other. When the tournament is held in a city like New York its just another event. In Greensboro its the big event. HB2 is a stumbling block and hopefully that gets resolved but there will always be a place for Greensboro in the ACC Tournament.

HB2 needs to go, no doubt. But that's not the reason the tournament is in NY this year and next.

How ironic Syracuse plays UNCG in the NIT. I don't think it was a coincidence lol.

Game got postponed tonight. Too much snow in Syracuse. Guess there isn't enough value in the city where the game can actually be played?

Syracuse knocked out UNCG 90-77. Great season for the Spartans. Would have been nice for them to knock out Syracuse, given the circumstances, but still a lot to be proud of.
