Big news for HP. According to the article it will be a multi purpose stadium with 5000 seats for baseball and 7500 for concerts and other events. construction could begin as early as fall with a completion date in 2019.

Interesting. When I first heard that High Point might be looking to build a stadium, the Atlantic League was my first thought.. Winston-Salem already has an Advanced-A team, Greensboro has a Mid-A team. But the Atlantic League has been looking to move south (outside of a team in Texas, their most southern team is the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in Waldorf, MD). They were looking to put a team in Virginia Beach a couple years ago but I think plans seem to have fallen through since the stadium was supposed to be built two years ago yet hardly a shovel has been picked up for stadium construction.

A stadium with a successful draw of a team could be a nice catalyst for development in downtown High Point. Maybe even a game changer. I just hope they don't cannibalize too much attendance from the Grasshoppers or Dash.

Ray Gibbs, former Downtown Greensboro Inc leader who is now working with High Point said they are also working on housing around the stadium. The seating capacity would be about the same as Winston-Salem and smaller than Greensboro. Certainly good news for High Point. Don't think it will hirt Grasshopper attendance though just as the Dash and Grasshoppers dont hurt each others attendance.

This is awesome news for High Point, and I love how it when HP does something it knocks it out of the park
Great location as it just a couple blocks from the Amtrak terminal. I like it will be a self-fulfilling park versus a tax-funded park. Maybe the Piedmont (Charlotte to Raleigh train) will add additional times other than twice daily.
Finally HP downtown can catch up with the rest in downtown development as I don't think it has been revitalized in a long time other than furniture showrooms.
The article states new restaurants, but I am thinking it will be larger than that like new hotels which I always have been perplexed as only the Sheraton is there. HP Furniture Market Weeks is known as the equivalent of Bryant Park Fashion week but the city lacks hotel room.
I hope a developer comes in builds a nice hotel with condos as the future HP pro team needs to set up residency.

Way to go High Point, the Atlantic League of Pro Baseball is fairly new, what do you think would be a good name for the team?
My suggestion is ' Venus Fly-Trap' homage to the Venus Fly Trap plant that eats it prey, and found mostly in NC.

I was excited when news of a possible downtown HP stadium first came up a while back. Apparently this baseball league requires AAA-level standards for its ballparks - I'm guessing both W-S and G'boro also at that level, and I love both those parks.

I guess 1998 qualifies as fairly new.

I just hope the HiToms (they play in Thomasville) aren't forgotten by local fans. It's not the same level of play or players or even season length, but I can see some people that might go see the HiToms going to the new HP baseball games instead.

Judging by ticket prices of a game in Sugarland which isnt too bad, the HIToms games look more affordable.
It may have some impact, to their games over the others listed above especially if the 'Fly-Traps'
become a good team. Out of all three mention teams, maybe they will play their best til the building is finished in hopes a pro scout is watching.

Here is a FOX 8 video link. Very exciting project. What sets this stadium apart from its two bigger neighbors is that it will host multiple events besides baseball. I can see concert events being planned around the furniture market

$30 million stadium in High Point could open by April 2019 | myfox8.com
