Based on City Data's own information (as of 2015), Greensboro's murder rate is 9.1 per 100k, Durham's is 13.2 and Winston is 5.5. However in almost every other metric Greensboro's crime rate is slightly to significantly lower than either other city.

It's also kind of difficult when you're dealing with murder rates in cities of this size since the actual number of murders, 26/34/14 is quite small and a single incident can result in the rate spiking significantly.

Bottom line the vast majority of the Triad and the Triangle is safe to live in and most areas in the two regions have a great quality of life.

The thread that kept up to date murder records on city data last year had Greensboro with the highest number of murders. I remember because I texted my sister the info that lives there. Like has been stated though, it's still not high enough to necessarily be considered a "dangerous" city.

Edit* found it

Fayetteville 26/12.68
Charlotte 88/10.45
Winston-Salem 25/10.33

Greensboro set a record with it's number of murders this year. Fayetteville (-16%/-5 murders) and Durham (-23%/-10 murders) saw declines in their murder rates from 2016. Charlotte saw a 31% increase from 2016's 67, and Raleigh saw a 18% increase from 22...

Murder rate is only part of the crime rate. Other crimes have to be factored in and that includes break ins, robberies etc.

True. I have no idea what the crime index is in totality.
