Hey everyone,

My husband is relocating for work to Greensboro. We are from NY and I've been told that the cost of living is cheaper in Greensboro. So I'm curious to know if a salary of about 55k-60k for a family of four is considered good and a livable salary??

Mortgage and HOA
Utilities (in NY we never paid for water, gas, garbage pick up, but we do pay ALOT OF electricity)
Car note
Car insurance
Groceries etc

Is it all doable??

I appreciate any feedback thank you!!

Good salary? Yes.
For a family of four? Might be kind of tight.
Naturally this will depend on other expenses. As a rule Greensboro is cheaper than NY so the same 60k will go further here. NC tends to nickel and dime you to death with various taxes and fees.
If you own a home here you will pay utilities separately; power from Duke Energy, natural gas (optional here) from Piedmont Natural Gas, water & sewer from the City of Greensboro.
Garbage is paid through city taxes.
There are neighborhoods that don't have HOAs

Not really. Adequate perhaps.
It's about the minimum or threshold level of middle class.

Some objective data:
Cost of Living Calculator - Cost of Living Comparison Index Tool

A $60,000 life near Greensboro would require $115,000 in NYC/Brooklyn
Real estate and utilities, which are he principle drivers in costs, will be less in NC.

Combined income that might be considered average on the high end for Greensboro
