I'd like to think so, but having watched NC lose this type of plant multiple times over the past 20 years, its hard to be overly optimistic. If the primary NC site was in eastern NC, I'd trust the General Assembly to put together an incentive package capable of winning. I'm not so sure they will do that for the Triad. They certainly wouldn't do it for Charlotte or the Triangle. The fact that the plant is technically in a fairly rural county may help.

It's also not too far from Berger's territory. He'll be an even bigger moron than I thought if he let's this one slip by without any serious effort.

Maybe, but he's based his political career on the concept of lowering all taxes instead of offering specific incentives as a means of creating jobs, so I guess we'll see.

I just stumbled across an op-ed response to the Triangle Business Journal that I thought was worth a read (not that I'm rooting for Alabama).

Thanks, that's what I was wondering. I've heard that he's under investigation. That's going to lose him some votes. If at least some of his people are within commuting distance & he doesn't go after this, that can lose him some more votes. Plus, if he does go after it, it proves him to be a hypocrite when he doesn't do it for everyone else.

Karma has caught up with him.

Thats interesting, under investigation for what?

Most of Berger's district is 30 to 60 minutes from the megasite, more at rush hour.

I don't remember what he's under investigation for, but I think it might be campaign funds. I think I saw the report on something on UNCTV. I was doing something & realized what the topic was & stopped to pay attention, then they went on to something else.

For what an automotive plant would pay, people in his district would be willing to go there. Several years ago I heard that the BMW plant was starting people at $20 an hour.

Agreed. Hell, I know people in Danville that would be willing to go there. Recently, Coca-Cola announced that they were closing their distribution center in Danville and our mayor's response was basically "No biggie. Go to Greensboro like everybody else for employment". Oh, and ignore Ken Larking's comment about the city's economy performing well. He's full of **** and VA Workforce is a joke.

It's the ultimate gotcha for Berger. Karma has him on her to do list. It's about time.

Don't expect Moore to lift a finger to assist him, either. Not after Berger went after the casino for Kings Mountain.

Martinsville and Danville have pretty much given up I think. I know there was some sort of task force that was going to be created in which members of each region would get together with these areas and work out some effective plan for economic development, but I'm not holding my breath on it. Seems like they're OK with people driving an hour down to Greensboro or up to Roanoke for work everyday so long as they spend all of their money "at home". That's why you see Martinsville and Danville get excited about fast food restaurants and chain stores.
