And even at that, I'll believe it when I see it, as far as NC getting an auto plant is concerned. What little hope I had left went out the window the moment T/M made their Alabama announcement.

If North Carolina had taken incentives serious enough in the 90s we'd have a Mercedes Benz plant in Mebane today.

Huntsville prepared for nearly 10, you want to make it a very easy choice beyond the incentives.
Infrastructure is key as well as a unified front. Study Japanese (or whichever the home country is) culture,
customs etc.
North Carolina should approach this as if they have or will win now get everything ready.

Thanks for the tips. NC has dozens of Japanese businesses, has had a recruitment office in Japan for many, many years, opened the North Carolina Japan Center at NC State in 1980, etc., etc. Thats not the issue.

I don't know if this has been brought up here or not, but Huntsville was also passed over by Volkswagon years ago, so sometimes a "no" just means "not right now."

Interesting. NC used some very creative accounting. $565 million of the $1.6 billion is not cash to the company, its an estimate (by NC) of the state tax savings the company would realize by locating in NC versus the average taxes due from AL, AR, TN and SC. Cash to the company from the state is $463 million (with $200 of that subject to General Assembly approval), plus another $100 million(!) in property tax rebates from Randolph County.

So NC's incentive package really wasn't as large as initially reported, nor was it much larger than Alabama's. Color me not surprised.

This will be really cool because we dont have a plant nearby we only have dealers and off the top of my head I can only think of a chevrolet dealer called Powers Swain. I think it would be really great to get a plant so that it provides more jobs.

Toyota-Mazda announced a while back that they had selected a site near Huntsville, AL for the plant.
