The great thing about a plant like this is that it would attract even more jobs in addition to the 4, 000 plant jobs through suppliers. It would definatly put Greensboro on the radar for advanced manufacturing in addition to HondaJet.

Poppydog looks like you have some inside info.

I think the article cited in the original post confirmed that this is a "firm maybe." NC made the short list.

Friend who is a journalist said as much yesterday. Can't give you much more than that because he didn't give much more than that, but I think he's privy to some recent/ongoing behind the scenes machinations. He wasn't firm on it so things could change, but he was definite thumbs up on it and thumbs down on Amazon coming to NC.

Local media knows more than what they let on in regards to a number of things in the community including future downtown developments. In some cases I think they have agreements with city leaders and developers not to publish certain information until the appropriate time. I kind of suspected that when I spoke with someone in the media in regards to one of Roy Carroll's future projects. In the case of Toyota, they probably asked city leaders not to publically comment on it.

My friend is not local to the Triad. He's a freelancer, usu does a lot of political stuff and coastal stuff, but he mentioned this and I don't think he would mention it unless he had a good feeling it was going to happen. We'll see.

I keep reading that Toyota/Mazda is looking for up to $1 Billion in incentives. I'm not saying they won't settle for something less, maybe half that, but I just don't see NC or SC ponying up that type of money for the plant, Texas yes. That's $250,000 per job if they get the $1 Billion in tax breaks for a 4,000 person plant, seems kind of high to get a company to choose your state.
