This is a paywall link but I wonder how true this could be? If true it's another major headquarters lost to Charlotte, the first since Wachovia which was eventually bought out by Wells Fargo. .

No.

"We are maintaining Krispy Kreme’s global headquarters in Winston-Salem, the birthplace of the company, as we deeply value our heritage and attachment to this area," was Garling's email reply Wednesday to Triad Business Journal inquiries."

Its attachment to the area is a reason why it would have been a complete shock.

Unless the CEO is lying it's not the headquarters.

More questions are being stirred up now that it was published that the Krispy Kreme CEO has bought a million+ dollar house on Lake Norman.

I really don't know what Krispy Kreme is planning. But if their intensions are to move to Charlotte and they don't want anyone to know yet, they will deny rumors. If both rumors are true they'll probably aqcuire Dunkin Donuts and move to Charlotte at the same time. It would certainly be a punch in the gut to Winston-Salem. Hopefully a big bank won't be looking to take over BB&T.

I think it would be naive to think that something isn't happening. It could be a situation where "HQ" is left in Winston-Salem, but most of the better jobs within the company will sit in Charlotte. Sort of like how Capital One is headquartered in Richmond... but almost all of the best "corporate" jobs with the company are in Tysons Corner.

Wonder what the motive would be for moving to Charlotte if that happens?
