Lexington would seem the obvious choice about halfway between. It has plenty of safe neighborhoods to choose from and is large enough to provide pretty much anything you would need on a daily basis.

Cannot attest to specific neighborhoods, but Mocksville is about equidistant, and there is Advance, Hillsdale, Farmington which are safe and in Davie. Midway, Welcome, Wallburg, and Lexington, and Yadkin College in Davidson County. If he doesn’t mind the longer commute, there is an exclusive community with upper end homes and townhomes off US601 just north of Catawba College outside Salisbury, don’t know the name.

Mocksville is a good choice. New high school opened this year, a new middle school went in about 5 years ago(?) It has a quaint, Mayberry charm with more restaurants going in, a farmer's market and periodic small town festivals. It is becoming more of a bedroom community to W-S because of the lower taxes.

You sort of parallel Spouse and I. He worked in W-S, I worked in Salisbury. That went on for about 15 years. Except for a couple instances where icy roads were a pain, it took me about 35 minutes to commute to Salisbury on 601 and the same for Spouse to get to downtown W-S. If you head farther out toward Advance, it'll take longer, on two-lane roads.

Davie taxes are cheaper, but depending on where you live in the county, you might have to deal with a well and septic tank. City water is making it's way farther into the county, but sewer systems are mostly in the east side, around Bermuda (Rich People) Run. For a dinky county, we have good internet. TWC .. 'scuse me .. Spectrum is also available.

There are a number of realtors you can check out. Century 21, Howard Realty, Total Real Estate are all in town. Land/houses have gone up in price. I've seen some real dumps being listed for 85k.

I strongly suggest checking out the Mocksville area if you are wanting to divide your commutes evenly and live in a nice area.
