Its Central North Carolina but that could mean anywhere from Durham to Asheboro. Don't see how the new name puts the Triad on the national/world map.

Exactly. This is a really bad name and needs to be re-thought. It basically admits that the area has no branding and no way to brand itself so we'll just say generally where we are geographically.

Frankly, just call it Greensboro/Winston-Salem Airport and be done with it. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre does the same thing and it works for them. Calling it Central Carolina does nothing to help the branding of the area and if anything, muddies up what the airport is referring to. If you told me I would be landing in Central Carolina, I would think it would be Columbia, SC or a secondary airport outside of Charlotte. Certainly not an airport 30 minutes from the border of Virginia.

I agree. Its like the Triad is throwing in the towel trying to brand the Triad globally. I know some of our Triad friends are fine with this because they want the cities to just go their own seperate ways. But Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point can only compete with the Atlantas as a single region. The Triad cities alone are to small to compete. This new airport name only creates more confusion and makes the Triad less known by name. This is purely an economic decision to try to land a big manufacturer across the taxiway.

If this name change moves the needle in any way, shape, or form towards landing a big manufacturer then I'm all for it (it doesn't matter in the slightest).

I just worry about branding for our region. If we land a manufacturer because of it Great. But we need to make sure we don't harm branding efforts.

Very true. But the name of the airport isn't going to mean anything to any potential employer. IMO, all this does is hurt branding efforts. I'm still not really grasping what it trying to be accomplished here with this name.

The new name is Central NORTH Carolina International Airport. I actually think its better than the old name.

"Fly PTI" sounds much better than "Flee CNC"

Because those who DON'T know much can still look at a map and see where "central" is.
Certainly in comparison to R/D or CLT which both have their City name on their airport.

It's like signage for roads or businesses.
People who know where they are don't need signs at all.
Signs are for people who DON'T know.

It could have been called Greensboro Airport but that implies a small town
(vs a city or a region)

No decision like this is perfect but this one managed the compromise well.
