I am planning to relocate to Winston Salem. My husband has a job opportunity in the Lexington area, near the Davidson Community College. Is it a reasonable commute to drive from there daily to WS? I am thinking we will have a better selection for schools and housing in WS, but and curious if the commute is terrible from DCC. Thanks for any input and advice!
Its an easy commute. Hwy. 52 is an interstate quality highway from W-S into Davidson County, then a short hop over backroads to DCCC. Just be aware that Business 40 is about to shutdown through downtown W-S for 2 years, but there are plenty of alternative routes to in W-S to get to Hwy 52.
Don't discount northern Davidson County...there are some nice subdivisions there. There is a frequent poster "Emelvee" that lives there that I'm sure will chime in and can provide more details.
Thanks so much! Is the drive very long? Google maps says 25 minutes, but you can never tell if that's correct until you've done it. I will check out north Davidson county as well. I'm really looking for good schools and activities for my family and thought Winston would be the best bet....?

That sounds right, although obviously it depends where in W-S one starts. The better school districts are West Forsyth and Reagan, which are both further away from the Lexington area.

That would be me! lol
OP, what is your price range? We live in northern Davidson County...taxes are lower than in Forsyth County, especially if you're in the city limits. I've driven to DCCC; from our home (near Wallburg), it's a 20 minute door-to-door drive to DCCC.
There are some good schools in both Forsyth and Davidson Counties. You just have to do some research since you can't just pick a county and expect all the schools in that county to be great. Personally, I would pick Davidson County schools over Thomasville and Lexington schools (Thomasville and Lexington, both in Davidson County, have separate school districts that the rest of the county). There are also some nice areas that are in High Point but in Davidson County; these often boast "Davidson County Schools" for potential buyers.
