Thanks, but I've decided not to live in Greensboro. I need to be close enough to work to go home for lunch (I have a dog). I had originally thought of living in Greensboro and getting a pet sitter to come by, or taking him to doggie daycare, but that runs anywhere from $300 to $400 a month. Not worth it. I'll keep looking in Asheboro.

Knowing what I know about Asheboro, I would glady pay the extra money for a doggie daycare to live in a better area. I just cannot image having to move back to a place like Asheboro. Family, Chruch, Randolph Mall and Walmart is about all there is in Asheboro to do, and if your single, don't count on any kind of social life, but at least you have your dog.
I am not bashing Asheboro, because I grew up there and it is a neat little town and a great place to retire, but no place for a 20-40 year old single male.

Ahh but now we have Alcohol down here so there is a growing nightlife. We also have new restaurants going up.. the mall could use a workover but the town is growing and slowly getting better. And besides Greensboro is 20 minutes away if ya wanna do other things.

Have you considered Burlington?
Have you considered Burlington or Graham in Alamance County as a potential landing spot? Its only about a half hour from Asheboro (depending on your way of travel) and is positioned between Greensboro and Raleigh/Durham. With it's location along the I-40/85 corridor, travel east and west is efficient. Five state highways run through Alamance County as well making for easy north/south commutes. The population of Burlington is about 70k-80k, Graham's population is much less, but both cities are connected by nothing more than a sign. It's very esy to get around the county and the cities, lots of shopping centers, eateries, good medical facilities, and neighborhoods than run the gamut from low to high income levels.
I used to work in Asheboro for many years. Its a nice town, but seemingly removed by comparison to other cities with little opportunity. Alamance County is central in the state. I would definately consider it.

Well, I'm also 41 and female, and in a relationship with someone who lives in VA (and out of town visiting them about once a month). I'll give Asheboro a year - if I can find a place to rent that's decent. If I hate it, I'll just move somewhere else, and save the $400 a month toward a down payment on a house or condo.

I live north of Asheboro, still in Randolph County. I have to agree completely with this post! There are some good country people around, but good Lord! The Redneck/Dumbasses are sort of out of control in this area. Before someone starts blasting me, I've been here 53 years, so I know what I'm talking about. There's a lot of backward thinking/acting around these parts. Agree that if you want anything to do, like eat a good meal, you'll have to go into Greensboro or High Point. I will say that the school system is very good! We have several county schools that are wonderful! Good luck with the move!
