Hello! My husband and I and 2 kids are planning to relocate to North Carolina once our home sells. We were fairly confident on the Charlotte area and then someone suggested we look at the Winston-Salem area. Which is better? Can anyone compare the two for me?? I need a good school system, affordable housing (150K or less) and jobs.

Also has anyone had any experience with "relocation specialists"? The whole idea of someone to help guide through the process and help with jobs just seems too good to be true..... You know what they say about that!!

Thanks!

It really depends on what you are looking for. The more affordable place to live is going to be Winston Salem. In the terms of family life and raising 2 kids I'm also going to have to say Winston Salem. I also have heard the Winston Salem school system is pretty good.

I like Charlotte a lot and used to go there when I was a bit younger as it was a good place to go have a good time and is only about a 50 minute drive from here in Winston Salem.

It sounds like your price range and childrens needs fit Winston Salem more than Charlotte.

Again don't get me wrong Charlotte is awsome but if I had to choose where to raise my children and find attractive affordable housing with a good school system Winston Salem would be my pick. If I were single or just married with no kids and or was a young proffesional then Charlotte would be it. Hard pick, those are 2 very good areas that I have always liked the best.

In terms of the relocation specialist, if you are talking about the guy that I gave you the info on then, there are a few members here who have already used him and some that seem to be working with him. I have received a few thanks from members who he already helped.

I don't know him personally but have met him now a few times and knew of him as we were both in the same type of business here. He is a very popular person in the restaurant industry here in the local area and very much liked by many.

I met him through my neighbor Gina as he relocated her and her family here from NJ. They love him and swore by him, that is how I came to know about what he does and his ads that he runs up north. I also think at one time he worked for a corporate relocator for big business, not too sure about that though but remember hearing that. I can promise you this much though, he is known to be a great GM General Manager and a highly respected person to work for in my industry, very highly connected since he runs one of the more highly dollar restaurants around.

About his relocating people here, I don't doubt for a second he can find you a home or job for that matter. I only know for sure that he relocated my neighbor here through an ad of some sort and there was a member here desperate to find a place right away and he got her situated in less than 2 days from what she told me. Those are the only 2 that I know of in detail about him helping although a few people thanked me for his info and said they were working with him and he was being very helpful. Gina my neighbor claims he takes all the stress and scaredness away from the whole ordeal of relocating, take that for what it is worth.

I feel confident by have given everyone on here his info and feel he will do them all right. I guess you just have to meet him, just so down to earth and straight forward which to me is a great combination.

Hope this helps you.
Good Luck, Tony

Charlotte has more job options, and daylife and nightlife being a bigger city however for 150k you are better to look in winston salem area to get more home for your $$ and safe.

Winston is more laid back great area for raising a family and it not to far from charlotte for adventure about hour to 1.5

No problem. I'm pretty confident in saying if he tells you he can or is going to do something, then rest assure it will be done. He is for sure on the up and up.

Have you spoke with him yet? Can you tell me what he may or may not be doing for you? If you don't mind can you tell me what kind of price tag something like this is going for through him, you can PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE) me this info as I don't want anybody angry at me for trying to make public.

He asked me a few weeks ago if I wanted to help him since I have been referring people his way, I almost did but after what he told me about all the time and things he does, I had to pass. I don't understand where between his full time and this that he even has time to spend with his family.

W-S is definitely a slower town. You can be out of the city and into the country a lot faster than Charlotte. Less a mess traffic-wise, as well. I don't know about schools, but W-S has two finely rated large hospitals, you won't lack for shopping with Hanes Mall and all the satellite businesses going up in that area. There's Olde Salem for history oriented recreation Old Salem Museums and Gardens | Home and Tanglewood for recreation Forsyth County > Tanglewood Park (http://www.forsyth.cc/tanglewood/ - broken link) Right across the river, down the road from Tanglewood, a large soccer complex is going in Soccer Facility (http://www.twincitysoccer.com/announcements/complex/soccer_complex.htm - broken link)

IMO, Charlotte is an ever expanding city with the attendant problems of sprawl. W-S looks to be spared that for the time being.

If you look into the Charlotte area, try Mint Hill.

My family and I are relocating to Winston-Salem /Clemmons need help in finding good school system, affordable housing(225k or less) and jobs. Would like to be close to highways and shopping not to rural. Been reading your thread and would like to be in touch with the relocation guy everyone is talking about. He seems very knowledgeable and honest. I have a 14 years old son and a 12 years old daughter. We lived in New York, Florida and Charlotte. Charlotte is too fast pace for us after living in Florida and the school system sucks need help we currently have our home on the market. Thanks
