Hello everyone! My big family and I are planning to relocate to Winston Salem, NC. I have several school age children, so I would like to know where I can find affordable rent (no more than $900.00 per month) for a three-bedroom house (not apartment) in a very quiet area (too much noise is one of the reasons we're trying to leave Miami) with low crime rate and good schools. I was looking into Tobaccoville area, but couldn't find any house for rent in there. Please, only objective comments. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Trulia shows 33 3BR house rentals under $900 available LINK
Which of these is most convenient to the job you have?

Thanks MrRational for the link! Really good prices! My daughter would be working at Costco, but we don't want to live around the downtown area. We prefer a quiet little town (maybe no more than 12 miles from WS downtown).
Thanks once more for the link!

I'd like to suggest northern Davidson County. Rents should be within your budget, and the schools are generally good. We live near the small town of Wallburg; we're about 20 minutes from Hanes Mall/Costco area, also 20 minutes from downtown W-S.

A lot of those houses aren't in the best neighborhoods or school districts, if that's a concern. If you want a smaller town convenient to Winston, you might want to look at Lewisville or Clemmons, to start with. Also, you'd probably be happy on the west side of Winston proper. Pickings are slim in those areas for your price range, but properties do exist. You'd likely have more options in those areas if you raised your rent threshold to 1000 or 1,100/month.

I have looked at Clemmons and Lewisville. I have found good rent prices there. It's just that we would like to go to a very small and QUIET town. Is that the case about Clemmons and Lewisville? Also, unfortunately, we can't afford more than $900.00, maybe $950.00. We are a big family (10 in total), but we can't afford more than a three-bedroom house within that price range. Thank you very much for the reply.

No responsible landlord will volunteer to have TEN tenants in ONE house.
At any rent rate.

Why is that? There is no one in WS with a husband and 8 children? How do big families live then? They all rent two houses/apartments and live separately? I'm confused...

I think you'll have trouble renting a 3 bedroom house for 10 people to live in. HUD guidelines (not laws) suggest no more than 2 people per bedroom. Most landlords will probably have similar expectations.
