Hubby, Toddler and me are driving down to Greensboro tomorrow for a 3-day look-around. He's also got an interview down there, which we hope will pan out. We're coming from the Northern VA area (so glad to get away from here!) Can anyone recommend a place for us to see/do/go? We will be staying at one of the hotels off 1-40 and Wendover.

Thursday a.m. is the meetup for hubby, Friday we are going to meet with a realtor, but other than that, what's going on in GSO? My camera is charging as speak.... I am going to take along a small, extra bag, just for home and apartment magazines.

I hope you have a good time on your trip and you must share the photos with this forum.

That is a decent location with ample shopping and restaurants.
I would swing into down town Greensboro for day time shopping and night time eateries.

It one of my favorite "classic happening" downtowns in this state.

I hope you have a good time

If you have free time off Greensboro High Point Road in Jamestown check out

17 and 18 century homes located in High Point

Here is a photo in downtown Greensboro (also known as Greensborough original spelling) the original Woolworth building where the first sit in too place A & T university students.

Here is some photosofthe best city park I have seen in a downtown area
Greensboro Center City Park.

Black Smith Building

In Greensoboro off High Point Road you can see the wildlife below

It will be on your right towards Jamestown from Greensboro almost across the TJ Maxx shopping center at Holden RD. on Greensboro High Point Road.

Children's museum is awesome for the kids- we take our toddler there all the time. It's downtown Greensboro- Greensboro Children's Museum | Growing Curious Minds (http://www.gcmuseum.com/flash.htm - broken link)

also, the Natural Science center has a new zoo area out back with Wallabees that the kids can pet! Natural Science Center of Greensboro

Now I'm not trying to take anything away from Center City Park in the least, as it is obviously a smashing success, especially for such a young park. But if that is the best downtown park you've ever been to, you need to do a bit more traveling.

My hubby would transfer to greensboro, but i worry about finding a new job. I'm a social worker- I've lived in the philly area my entire life, we visited NC once, i was afraid to speak in my city accent, the people were all so nice- (my own issue, i guess). Good luck with the house hunting- i'll be following your threads to see how you've made out!!!

Sorry I didn't get back to you until now - yikes! Hope you're still listening in...
Well, the trip went well, although I did catch a nasty flu bug or something, just me. Made my map reading atrocious, but whatever! LOL

We DID like it. We actually moved here! We went down because my hubby was offered a promotion ( a change to a new store in GSO here) so we decided to check it out more intensively. Lucky we did, we also went apartment hunting after the interview, looked at stores, housing, restaurants etc. BUT, my camera did NOT work at all during the trip!

So here's the gist - it really is a family town, which I love. The guy who installed our cable TV, phone and etc from Time Warner said he thinks GSO is about 20 years behind the times. While I might be inclined to agree to some extent, I must say that in the categories that falls under, I consider that a very good thing indeed. We've been here 3 weeks now, and only now am I starting to chill out enough to not rush, rush, rush everywhere for no good reason.

You will appreciate that. And people really are nice.

There is alot of focus on church groups and schools and eating out, so far as I can tell. The greensboro Coliseum has some cool things lined up for the summer, check that out.

The city is great - it's a TOWN - and the traffic is well planned I think. They see that Charlotte and Raleigh have both had immense growth which has greated problems for traffic there. But, I think GSO is thinking ahead in that respect.

I cannot tell you a lick about nightlife here since I haven't had a night "life" in a few years since having my daughter! Trust me, I wish that were different.

Let me know if you have any questions, I hope I can answer them. It's very green here, all the trees are lots more lush than upcoast. But the sneeziness comes with. I think I can live with that.
