Will renting for $550 in the Triad means living in the ghetto?
I've been doing a lot of research on the Triad and been able to find apts that actually are affordable (i'm coming from the DC area so no surprise.) I just want to know if i can get a decent 1 bed apt for $550 a month ($500 would be even better) without being in a war zone? I live in a neighborhood in VA which does have a light to moderate amount of petty crime (car break-ins, vandalism) and violent crime (murders and gunshots) is rare and i hope to find the same thing or comparable in the Triad, Winston-Salem preferably but GB and HP and any close suburb is fine.

Try the beacon wendover. I pay between $567-$575 per month pending the water bill. I like the area because like you I don't appreciate living in the war zone. That doesn't include electric...that bill may vary for me between $45-50 per month depending on the weather and me leaving my computer on.

I would check out Lindley Park Manor or Latham Park Park manor. Two great apt complexes in good neighborhoods for under $500. I live in Latham Park and love it here . See web site below, they have a virtual tour of the apts:

Just because you find a place within a reasonable amount doesnt mean it has to be in the ghetto. That simple.

I live in the Metro DC area and that is simply isn't the case. Do a search for apts under $800 see the neighborhoods they're located in.

I lived in areas under 400 that wasnt ghettos and I think too many use that term too loosely.

I'm in the NOVA/DC area like Alanboy395 and I have to agree. Each area is different of course, but I will say that on our visit to Greensboro this past week, we checked out every 3BR apartment in the mags starting with the lowest first. Some of those places were so bad I didn't even want to get out of the car! "Ghetto' is an accurate term for the most of them.
"Ghetto" may be a term people use, but whether it is used loosely or not is merely opinion. It's not a positive word, and slang has a life of its own. Please don't try to make others feel bad for using it.
On the other hand, if you have a positive recommendation to make (i.e., "areas under 400 that wasn't ghettos"), then by all means, share your wealth of knowledge with those who are requesting it.

When we moved from VA to NC our rent doubled, and we went from lower middle class apartments to lower middle class apartments. Good luck finding something under $700. We decided to buy instead, and we pay the same for our small 2BR house as we did when renting a 1BR apartment.
