My husband injusred his back this past summer working in the yard. He has a history of degengerative discs - things
seems to have gotten better until recently. He is on his feet all day (teaches Computer Apps) and over the last 2/3 weeks the pain has begun to increase significantly. This past Tues he had an MRI and has a ruptured disc at S1L5. He is now
in so much pain that he literally can't walk or sit. His dr. (not a spine spcialist - just a GP at a Orthopedic group) wants him to have some injections to try and ease the pin. My question is - have any of you had this done, and
if so what was the outcome. Lastly, who is the BEST spine person in the Triad. I have to try to help him get well. I can't
stand seeing him in so much pain. Thanks in advance

what city are you in in the triad? I am an RN and know several good orthopedist and spine docs in the triad area. What group have you gone to already? I might be able to help you!

We are in the GSO/HPT area. He has been seen by a GP - Sports guys at Murphy Wainer. We got a referral to Vanguard Brain and SPine for next Monday morning.

I don't have a suggestion for you, but I hope you can find someone. I had just a mild bulging disc (S1-L5) a year ago and it is by far the worst injury I have ever experienced (still dealing with it). I cannot imagine the pain of a ruptured disc. I had one injection and it helped in a big way. It is only temporary relief and will wear off in 3-4 weeks. I would do it to get some relief for the short term so you can evaluate your options with a level head.

Lyrica has gotten positive feedback from patients with nerve root pain in their spinal area. The only drawback is it can make you feel loopy so driving might be iffy. Some take it at night to get a restful sleep.

You need to know this, it is ongoing since May 7, 09. Avoid what I am going through!!
I also have degenerative disc disease, then my L4-L5 disc ruptured, I was referred to a doctor
at Vanguard Brain and Spine, it was a big mistake. He seemed very nice and competent, but, after Surgery pain was a nightmare, from the minute that I came to in recovery, in more pain than I have ever had (I have had open heart surgery, major brain aneurysm surgery and others). He was telling me that "we" had encountered more than expected, said that I now have some broken bones in my back and would need to schedule another surgery for fusion. Broken Facet joints didn't show on mylogram prior to surgery. He will never touch me again!
So I am left with back pain still, sciatic leg pain and infection and now my stomach is flaring with pain and now I am seeing doctors to try to diagnose if this is related.
I have heard that Dr Roy at that group is very good and caring, Please don't take a chance and get the doctor that I did, I am afraid to post his name. If you want to email me, it is ok, it is babh@infionline.net] . Good luck to your husband.

The Spine Decompression DRX9000 treatment saved my husband and my dad from having to have lower back surgery. They both went to Dr Scelfo at Carolina Spine Center. He is only one of 2 Chiropractors in the W-S area that has this special table called DRX9000. This treatment was a miracle for both my husband and my dad's herniated disc. My dad's was so bad that his surgeon said he had no other option but to have surgery. We wanted to avoid surgery if at all possible; too many horror stories. We thank the Lord and Dr Scelfo for healing their backs.

I need to know the best spine specialist in the Winston-Salem area. My husband started having daily neck/head pain several months ago. CT report said "spurring of cervical spine"; MRI report said "mild degenerative disc" however the pain in his neck is on the opposite side of the disc. He just finished treatments that cured his lower back pain and it hasn't helped so we think the pain is coming for the bone spur pressing on a nerve. We need a spine specialist to accurately diagnose the cause of his pain and recommend treatment. He was pain free for 10 days after having a nerve block and is scheduled to have a Radio Frequency lesion block on Wednesday. Not crazy about the RF block and it's a band aid at best, so we need a spine specialist ASAP.
