Speaking of which, the OP mentioned West Wendover Avenue. It also has one of those left lane exits and yields, at the intersection of South Holden Road.

Apparently, at some point, traffic engineers thought that was a workable design, but it got quickly abandoned.

This right here might be the the toughest merge in Greensboro... or at least the most troublesome. Coming up from MLK Blvd...having to build up merging speed while going uphill.

I think that's why that whole area used to be called "Death Valley" (due to all the traffic accidents), and that was before the new I-85 loop that's alleviated a modest amount of that area's traffic.

The whole stretch will be messy again in the future when they start construction on replacing the bridges over Buffalo Creek and they also plan to widen the road to 4 lanes each way.
